Hello, my name is Alexandra Evans. I'm a Documentary Studies and Production major with a double minor in journalism and H&S honors. My major is interdisciplinary, so I take courses from the journalism, television radio, and the cinema, photography & media arts departments.
My motivation for being a storyteller is simple. There is power in true stories, real people and shared learning experiences. Finding creative ways to present those experiences to an audience is a challenge, and my college career has prepared me to tell compelling stories through writing, video and photography.
My love for both the nonfiction production and journalism industry stems from my passion of storytelling. I want to tell the stories one passes by as they lead their busy lives. My hope is to take people away from routine and immerse them in someone's else routine, someone's else's reality. I believe that by exposing overlooked realities, we can become a more understanding, cultured society.
During the fall 2011 semester, I lived in Los Angeles to study and intern though the Ithaca College Los Angeles Program. I worked as a production intern for the Emmy award-winning CBS talk show The Doctors, which is filmed on the Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood. In The Doctors office and studio, I worked closely with a 4-person production team that produces one episode a week. As part of my internship, I researched content for the show, helped write parts of the script, searched for and interviewed potential show guests, and assisted my producers backstage during live studio tapings. Thanks to my LA semester, I have developed an even deeper passion for non-fiction film and television, and I hope to make my way up in the industry as a producer for non-fiction programming.
This past semester, I worked as the opinion editor for The Ithacan. I received the award for producing the best section (Opinion) for the 2011-12 academic year. Next year, which will be my senior year, I will continue to work as a writer/editor for the college's Fuse magazine. My main focus next year will be on producing and directing a documentary about rave culture for my senior media thesis.
