Welcome to my E-Portfolio! My name is Anna and I'm currently a freshman in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. At the moment, I'm in the Health Science Pre-professional program, an exploratory program for freshman and sophmore students who are unsure of what career path they would like to take within the health professions. Being a part of this program has given me the chance to explore the wide array of opportunities and careers within the health field, helping me pinpoint my varied interests to a specific career. Within the HSHP department, we are given an education based on eight areas of standard knowledge. These specific areas, which you can find detailed within my portfolio, provide each HSHP student with the proper tools needed to succeed in the demanding yet rewarding health field. Throughout my portfolio, you can see what I have learned from each of these areas and how I plan to use the valuable information they provide in my future career.
Down the road, I see myself pursuing a career in emergency medicine. During my senior year of high school, I took an EMT-basic course which gave me first-hand experience with the action-pact field of emergency care, exposing me to situations most people only encounter while watching medical TV shows. During the course, I observed ER physicians in the local emergency room and EMTs of different levels at work on the ambulance. These experiences, combined with my love for adrenaline (skydiving anyone?) and medicine heightened my interest in the emergency medical field and because of this, I am considering enrolling in medical school after my four years here at Ithaca College with the hope of one day becoming an Emergency Physician.
While health science is something I'm very passionate about, it's certainly not my only passion. I have always had a great love for writing, composing my many thoughts and feelings into written word for as long as I can remember. I write for the pure enjoyment it brings, expressing just about anything that wanders through my mind on paper. Writing is purely a hobby but it's something I would love to learn more about and improve upon. For this reason, I have a minor in writing. Combine this with my soon-to-be major in the health sciences, and I'd say I'm receiving quite a varied and well-rounded education here at Ithaca!
I've always lived my life with unfailing optimism, seizing every opportunity and cherishing the many gifts life has blessed me with. I think the greatest opportunity anyone can be provided with is the opportunity to live and it would be a shame to waste it. I want to make every day count. I want to travel to a place I know nothing about and serve the global community. I want to help people live healthier and happier lives. But most importantly, I want to be able to say I experienced life and treasured it for all that it is worth.
Hope you enjoy my E-Portfolio!
