Hi, my name is Alex Vassilakos. I am a Television-Radio major in the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. I hail from the small city of Lowell, Massachusetts (to help with the familiarity, it is the city that the film The Fighter was shot and based on). But, despite being from the Boston area, I would love to eventually work in a larger, more media based city (though my loyalty to the Red Sox will never change), and my goal after graduating from IC in 2016 is to work on a sitcom television show in either New York City or Los Angeles.
From an early age, I became very interested in the “magic” that was television shows and the intriguing plots that they offer. My interest in television has only increased over the last fourteen years; I am often found researching upcoming television series and their origins in my spare time. Eventually, my goal is to develop my own TV series. I am very good with coming up with concepts, and ideas, though I may not always know how to follow them through, but I’m never too shy to ask for help. I love working in teams and brainstorming, bouncing ideas off of each other. Having participated in theatre since I was three years old, I am also very good at public speaking and presenting ideas to large groups of people.
Four years ago, I would have never imagined that I would be able to ask my cell phone for information and it would respond correctly, yet, here I am asking Siri what the whether it will be raining in Ithaca again tomorrow. I am very aware that the job I will hold after graduating from Ithaca will not be something that, even with my vivid imagination, I could dream up right now. The television industry is constantly changing, and will continue to progress as technology becomes available. One thing that I pride myself on is that I am not afraid to take risks or step outside my comfort zone. Even if I fail, it is a learning experience. Our world and industry is constantly changing, and I am willing to change with it.
