I am a Junior transfer student from West Virginia University. I was born and raised in Upstate New York. I am currently a Documentary Studies and Production Major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. My initial interest in my field began during my freshmen year in college when I discovered photography for the first time taking and introductory course. I still love photography and hope to utilize it in my field of work. I am also interested in journalism and making documentary films. I one day hope to work for a publication doing photo journalism as well as journalism traveling around the world covering stories such publications as National Geographic or Time Magazine. I also wish to one day make my own documentary film series. However I hope to expand and have my hand in numerous projects and opportunities surrounding my career interests. Other than photography, my interests are sports, specifically boxing. I also love travel, graphic design, and various things of that nature.
I have learned so much about the Media Industry as whole through "s'Park: Igniting Your Future in Communications,". The Media Industry is rapidly changing and new jobs are being created every day. The newspaper and magazines are now converging to be online, something that seemed unimaginable ten years ago! Who knows what kind of jobs will be created by the time I graduate . Therefore, I have learned to keep an open mind when choosing my career, and learn the various positions in this multifaceted industry. The creation of Youtube, social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and blogging has made it possible for citizen journalists to express their opinions through the web and have them viewed all over the world. With these changes we have also seen a complete overhaul in online advertising. Advertisers are overwhelming the public with ads and they must change their style in order to keep up with the constantly changing new technologies. The possibilities are endless when it comes to careers in the Media Industry, and I plan to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way in my next three years at Ithaca College, in order to make my self a more valuable asset in the work place.
