My name is Benjamin H. R. Viagas. My life has been filled with art, particularly theater, since as far back as I can remember. My goal is to enable other people to share in the same wonderful experiences that I have. To further this goal, I am enrolled as a Theater Arts Management major at Ithaca College. My interests within the field include company management, event planning, front of house as a form of hospitality, development, and marketing.
My favorite experiences at college have been my work with Much Ado About outreach, a student organization dedicated to connecting Ithaca College Theater with the greater community. I helped run a week of theater workshops with elementary school students and organized talkbacks with the dramaturgy department. This has served to remind me of the potential significance of theater in people's lives. Many of my academic interests within the theater could be characterized as "quantifying the unquantifiable." How much do people value the arts and how can that be measured in a meaningful way? Sub-disciplines that help me answer these questions include anthropology, sociology, and economics.
I invite you to browse the examples of my accomplishments featured in the sidebar, especially the blog which I kept during my summer internship in the marketing department at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
