Hello everyone, my name is Carly Davidson! I am currently a Cinema and Photography major, concentrating in Cinema Production, but I may float around to another major or two! I plan on graduating in May of 2015, and in that time, I hope to acquire skills that will last a lifetime.
As a student of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, I was fortunate enough to be put into the S'Park seminar where I have learned a lot over a short amount of time. One of my favorite things that I have learned so far is that the industry is always changing. I found it interesting when it was mentioned that many of us would be creating our own jobs, and many of us would be living overseas in different forms of communications. Another thing I learned is that print journalism is now "dying" and transitioning to online media instead. Although it is sad that there will be no more hard copies of newspapers and magazines, it is becoming more eco-friendly. Because people are able to hide behind a computer screen easily, the things said online are more harsh than they were before when comments and critiques were more commonly published in a newspaper. Also, you do not have to be a critique just to comment on a film or blog, anyone can give their rating to a movie thanks to sites like rottentomatos.com,imbd.com, etc. As a last note, the media is now becoming less of an art form, but more of a commercialized outlet to publicly advertise something. Films and music videos use to be an outlet to create art, and now they have become a place to place advertisements and see how much money one corporation can spend.
I am so excited to be a student in the Communications school, and I look forward to the next four years of what it can and will bring me.
