Welcome to my ePortfolio. My name is Dorothea Hinman, and I am a freshman in the Cinema and Photography major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. I have a passion for storytelling and the drive to make it in the ever-changing world of communications.

I am originally from Rochester, New York, where I attended Honeoye Falls-Lima High School. Since the age of two I have danced at various studios around the Rochester area, and my dedication to this life long hobby has not died since graduation. I am currently a member of the Ithaca College Dance Team and the Unbound Dance Company at IC. I continue to balance school work with my love of dance, and my ever growing love of film and communications. Cinema is a unique medium in that it encompasses so many different aspects of the entertainment world. Of everything I've learned thus far at Ithaca, whether it's how to load a roll of film into the Bolex or what "diabetic sound" is, the concept of collaboration sticks out in my mind; film is a medium in which every aspect of a creative environment comes together for one common purpose, and I cannot wait to learn and expose myself to every facet of the great cinema machine.

Aside from a fast paced learning environment in my film classes, the Program Spark at Park has greatly influenced my view on communications. I've learned that the global economy is growing faster and faster with new technology; I will not be surprised if I find myself working for a foreign country in the years to come. I've also learned the importance of knowledge. The more one knows about their field, the more readily accessible they will be to companies and employers. The communications field is an exciting, ever changing field to enter, and Spark has encouraged and informed me of the many challenges and rewards of having a career in a field that could change at the drop of a hat.
