Emma From's Picture

Welcome to my ePortfolio!  I'm very excited to have you here.

My name is Emma From and I am currently enrolled as a freshman in the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, and I hope to receive my Bachelor of Science in Television-Radio in the spring of 2015.

I am thrilled to be enrolled in the Park School of Communications, and have already learned so many things involving the media.  We are currently submerged in a virtual world.  We use some form of media everyday and have access to various social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter.  With this, the availability of media-related jobs has expanded tremendously; there are so many opportunities for people with the right training to work in the field of any media.  In order to get the right training for one of these jobs, one must be familiar with the massive role that media has in people's lives today, understand that the media is moving very rapidly, and be well rounded in the field of communications.  Also, the media has changed the way we receive and react to information.  If we open up an internet browser and see an article on something, we can be typing our personal opinions on the article with the click of one button.  A major advantage that my generation has in the field of emerging media is that we have grown up with it.  We have had the privilege to have seen the internet evolve and go from being exclusive to highly inclusive.

Over the years, I have taken a very strong interest in television production and editing.  My affinity for television grew great during my sophomore year of high school, right around the time of the Presidential Election of 2008.  I find it thrilling how anchormen and anchorwomen sitting at a desk in a studio can reach into the homes of millions of people and deliver fascinating and historical news.  Ever since that night on November 4, 2008, when Keith Olbermann looked into my family room and told my mother and me that Barack Obama had won the presidency, I have wanted to be a part of television production.  My major goal while I’m in college is to intern for a broadcasting news company.  This goal is so important to me mainly because internships often can make a career successful.  I’m hoping I can get a job out of any internship I’m able to get, and I’d love to participate in Ithaca College’s Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. programs.  In terms of my career, my goals are to work for a major television network, specifically in either editing or producing political news shows.  I’d love to blend my love of politics with my love of television production.  During my career, some other goals would be to film or edit presidential elections, political interviews, and the Olympic games.
