Hi! I'm Emily LaPierre, a freshmen TVR major here at Ithaca College. I am originally from Chazy, a tiny town in upstate New York. I was born and raised on a relatively large dairy farm, owned by my family. I'm extremely excited to be starting my first year at Ithaca College as a Park Scholar, and hope to get involved as much as I can with various organizations on campus.
I am an aspiring news reporter/anchor and have already taken the steps necessary in order to build my experience. In high school, I was fortunate enough to intern at the local news station, WPTZ News Channel 5. Here, I learned about the various positions in the news broadcasting industry. I shadowed directors, producers, reporters, and anchors. Then I put my new found skills to the test and shot my very own five minute news broadcast. I was able to take the skills I learned through this internship to help me secure a spot as an Associate Producer on IC's news broadcast, News Watch 16.
The Media Industry is rapidly changing and new jobs are being created every day. The newspaper and magazines are now converging to be online, something that seemed unimaginable ten years ago! Who knows what kind of jobs will be created by the time I graduate in 2015. Therefore, I have learned to keep an open mind when choosing my career, and learn the various positions in this multifaceted industry. The creation of Youtube, social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and blogging has made it possible for citizen journalists to express their opinions through the web and have them viewed all over the world. The possibilities are endless when it comes to careers in the Media Industry, and I plan to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way in my next three years at Ithaca College, in order to make my self a more valuable asset in the work place.
Take a look around and enjoy all I have to offer on my e-portfolio!
