My name is Hannah Fitzpatrick and I am a freshman at Ithaca College studying Integrated Marketing Communications in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. After almost finishing up my first semester here I've learned some pretty interesting things and have set many goals for myself for the future.
Entering college here at IC I knew I wanted to have some sort of a career in Public Relations, but I was never sure what career I would end up pursuing. I'm still searching and learning something new about the field everyday but one goal always will remain true: I wish to live in Los Angeles. So, whatever my job ends up being, here's hoping it throws me out west. However, it won't be easy to make my way 3,000 miles! I'm definitely going to have to get my feet wet in some sort of a smaller venue beforehand - it's all about working your way up the totem pole and you have to start small. This will most likely occur through a series of internships, which I would love to start as soon as possible - this summer even! I'm definitely planning to do a semester in LA and hopefully make some connections with future employers because sometimes it isn't necessarily what you know, but who you know. It is really important to be well educated though, don't get me wrong. However, in this day and age with the uprise of technology, I think it'll be that much easier to get my name out there. Like I said, I've tweeted over 5,000 times (a feat I'm rather proud of) and I've also obtained a lot of information through Trending Topics and from some of the celebrities and news sites that I follow. I think it's important to get involved in social networking early since sites like Twitter and Facebook really are taking over.
One thing besides Public Relations that I would love to explore a career in would be the theatre. If I could somehow end up advertising and promoting different shows of something of the sort I would be the most satisfied with my career choice. Growing up in high school as an avid Drama Club member made my passion grow through the roof and it's something that I never want to give up. The thrill and excitement the stage fills me with is an indescribable feeling, but it's definitely one that I love. With the economy these days and the need for more jobs many people are creating their own these days. Hopefully I'll be able to take my two passions and combine them together to create the perfect occupation for me.
So here's hoping with three and a half more years somehow I'll be able to find my way through more than just the small town of Ithaca, New York.
