During my undergraduate career, I have had many visions of what my profession would be after I graduate. I never even heard of athletic training before I started looking at colleges during my junior year of high school. I applied to Ithaca College early decision with the intention of studying athletic training solely based upon the course catalog. The classes listed in the Athletic Training Curriculum seemed very exciting and intriguing to me. As I participated in my courses and clinical experiences, particularly after my assignment in the Physical Therapy Clinic at Island Health and Fitness in Ithaca, New York, I learned that I really enjoyed the clinic setting and the focus on rehabilitation.
After I graduate in December 2009, I will be taking the Board of Certification Exam in late January with the goal of becoming an athletic trainer. I will be traveling back to Australia after the holidays in order to pursue my interest in rehabilitation by gaining some work experience in the field of sports physiotherapy. In the following May 2010, I plan to attend graduate school to earn my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Eventually, I would like to work in a sports medicine clinic as an ATC/DPT in order to continue my passion for rehabilitating injuries and educating patients about health and the human body.
