Hi, my name is Kourtney Selak and I am a cinema and photography major with a concentration in still photography. I expect to graduate in the spring of 2016.

Photography is my passion and although I am not always good with words, I use my photography as a way to make my voice heard. Inspired by my dad’s photography, I first picked up a camera when I was thirteen. Since then I have fallen in love with the process of making a photograph. I continually become more and more intrigued with the creative and artistic possibilities photography presents as well as the impact photographs can have on viewers, their storytelling capabilities, and their ability to open the eyes of many to different situations, people, and occurrences around the world.

My second love is traveling and learning about different cultures. I hope to combine these interests to form my future career. Whatever I may end up doing later on in life, I know that I want my work to benefit others, the environment, or the world in some way. I hope to use my photography as a way to cause change and bring the beauty of different cultures to other places around the globe. I hope to tell people’s stories that otherwise would have gone unknown and shed light on injustices and struggles that are being faced around the world. By doing so, I hope to gain a larger picture of the world as well as do the same for others. I know that with hard work and perseverance this dream will become a reality and that my photography will have an impact on others and be a force for change.
