Kelly Wicks


Originally from the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, Kelly Wicks graduated Ithaca College in May of 2012 and is currently seeking postgraduate employment. Earning a bachelor's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications, Kelly's studies combined advertising and public relations coursework from the communications school, with marketing and sales coursework from the business school. From this, Kelly was able to get hands on experience in a variety of areas, from doing design work to developing proposals to creating media content. The IMC coursework also placed a strong emphasis on developing basic, but crucial skills such as working in a group, multitasking, and writing. Finally, Kelly supplemented her major coursework with a minor in Art, which allowed her to improve her creative capabilities and continue an activity she truly enjoys.

Kelly was also involved in several student groups at Ithaca. Senior year she served as Vice President of the Public Relations Student Society of America. In this position she led the production of events on campus as well as professional development activities for members. Events included a speaking engagement by The Intern Queen and PRSSA's annual charity basketball tournament, which had over 150 attendees and raised over $800. Kelly was also a member of the American Adverting Federation, which allowed her to participate in advertising on campus and in the local community. Her senior year she was also granted membership to AAF's Alpha Delta Sigma Honor Society.

Outside of her coursework, Kelly also had the opportunity to gain professional experience through several internships during her four years of college. In her sophomore year she completed two internships during her time studying abroad in Milan, Italy. Kelly was chosen to blog on the website of the her study abroad program, IES Abroad and discuss her experience and advise prospective students. Kelly also interned within Milan at Joy Yaffe, a public relations firm specializing in up-and-coming fashion designers on the international market. Her duties there included researching, updating press databases, and organizing press and print materials. Back at Ithaca during her junior year, Kelly gained another blogging internship with the website Each week Kelly featured the style of a student on campus and wrote a fashion advice blog that was promoted through personal social media. Kelly also gained experience in event management while completing a practicum with the Ithaca Downtown Alliance, in which she assisted with the planning and promotion of the Red Bull Chariot Race. Finally, in the summer of 2011 Kelly interned at the Cleveland office of The Make-A-Wish Foundation. She was primarily involved with the planning of the annual Walk for Wishes, which raised over $150,000 for the organization. Through this, Kelly gained experience in fundraising, event production, donor relations, and promotion.
