My name is Lauren Barber and I'm a journalism student at the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. I have a strong passion for writing and telling stories and I love absorbing myself in media. One of the things I love about journalism is the chance to talk to a diverse spectrum of people who I would never have met otherwise. I also greatly enjoy photography - I think communicating through a lens is one of the most creative forms of expression. I'm from a small town in southern New Hampshire, about an hour from the coast and 45 minutes north of Boston - making me a huge Boston sports fan!
I write for the Ithacan newspaper here on campus as a staff news reporter and for Imprint magazine as a staff Life & Style writer. I have also had the opportunity to gain some experience at two newspapers back home - WindhamLife and MethuenLife - as a staff writer and photographer. Other than just journalism, I am the Assistant Director of Ithaca College's chapter of Up 'til Dawn, a national charity group devoted to helping kids with childhood cancer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I've also done several builds for Habitat for Humanity and participated in Relay for Life as part of Colleges Against Cancer.
I am currently spending a semester abroad at the Ithaca College London Center. Other than exploring the beautiful continent of Europe and attending classes, I have been working as an intern for Newspepper.com and TechFluff.tv, two start-up tech blogs where I get to go out into the London tech scene, conduct interviews, shoot and edit video, and blog about my experiences. Check out the two sites to see what I've been up to!
I hope you enjoy my work while you look through my portfolio!
