My name is Leah Friedman and I am a Junior Health Sciences Pre-Med major at Ithaca College. I am in the department of Human Performance and Physical Education within the school of Health Sciences and Human Performance. Prior to my Spring 2015 graduation date I plan on making the most of my time at Ithaca College through volunteering, joining clubs, and experiencing internships. In addition to joining the Pre-med student society, I am also apart of Hillel and the clubs IC ASL, To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), the Ithaca College Chapter, and am secretary of the club Guiding Eyes for The Blind at Ithaca College. As part of my responsibilities for this club I am raising a 1 year old yellow lab puppy named Ballad who will one day become a guide dog.
I hope to become a nurse practitioner and then one day a Nurse Midwive in a private setting and in a hospital setting. I plan to receive a degree in Health Sciences Pre-Medical emphasis with a Nutrition Promotion Minor. I have always been interested in the medical field and my Nutrition minor will help me be a more well-rounded care giver. I have been interested in Obstetric medicine since I was five and saw my first baby being born. I plan to apply to an accelerated nursing program after graduation in order to begin my career path. I plan to use my internships and fieldwork that I have the pleasure of having at Ithaca College, as way to see what my future could be like. One day I would love to open my own midwifery practice and incorporate natural practices into my medical practice.
In addition to being a member of clubs, my other hobbies include being a die-hard Mets fan and traveling to other stadiums to watch Major League Baseball games. I am originally from Madison, Connecticut, a small town on the shoreline where I spent a large part of my childhood. My interests include horseback riding, writing short stories, and acting in plays and musicals. I think acting has boosted my confidence and reassured me that I can do anything that I want.
