Michael Clark is a pianist, teacher, and scholar currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. He is the recipient of the James J. Whalen Talented Young Artist Award, a full-tuition scholarship given to the incoming freshman with the highest academic and musical rating. His primary teachers include Dr. Jennifer Hayghe and Dr. Melinda Smashey Jones. Michael is a native of Bolivar, Missouri, and began studying piano at the age of 7. Michael frequently performs solo recitals in Ithaca and Bolivar and has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Ozarks Festival Orchestra and the May Day Orchestra. He is also an active accompanist and chamber musician. His collaborative piano coaches include Dr. Diane Birr and Dr. Charis Dimaras. Michael teaches piano to beginning and intermediate students through the Ithaca College Teaching Intern Program and has studied piano pedagogy with Dr. Deborah Martin. His music research has been published in Nota Bene: Canadian Undergraduate Journal of Musicology. He is currently the president of the Ithaca College Chapter of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). During the 2013–2014 school year, he will also serve as Worship Committee Chair of the Ithaca College Protestant Community. Michael is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda and is a recipient of the Peggy Ryan Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership at Ithaca College.
