German Graduation 2012

My name is Max Rottenecker and I'm an international freshman Sport Media student here at IC.

I was born and went to school in Germany, but during my 11th grade year in 2009-2010 I decided to take part in a foreign exchange program and went to school for one year in Wilkes-Barre, PA, where I also stayed with a hostfamily. I graduated High School there, went back to Germany for two more years and graduated High School "again" in 2012.

I have a big passion for sports, I love listening to music, eat all kinds of food and spend time with friends and family. In addition to that I love travelling, as I have visited many different places and cultures in Europe as well as the US. Here at IC I plan on playing football for the Bombers and I walked on as a kicker.

The question "why did you come to IC?" has various answers. First of all the major is really hard to find and IC is one of the best schools for sport media, but it is also located in the Northeast so it's not far to go back to PA for holidays and other occasions. That's why I thought Ithaca would be a perfect fit and applied. Applying to college from Germany was a fun experience, as I got to travel quite a bit for SATs and TOEFL tests and connected with people with the same plans.

I chose the major after interning in the press department of Schalke 04, one of Germany's top soccer clubs in 10th grade. The experience I had during the 2 week internship was really incredible and I decided that this is what I want to do. After graduation I don't know where I want to work and what field I want to work in as  I feel like my studies here at Ithaca and my internships will have to lead me in a certain direction first before I decide on my field of work.
