Hello, my name is Rebecca Norton. I am currently a Sophomore at Ithaca College, majoring in Television-Radio with a media production concentration in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
When I was younger I was inspired by a television show whose main character was a brilliant student pursuing journalism. She was driven and always went above and beyond what was expected. Throughout high school I learned many journalism and TV studio skills including on air work. I fell in love with being in front of the cameras, updating the student body every morning. I hope to utilize Ithaca’s opportunities and resources to pursue my passion for broadcasting and media.
I'm an active member of the ICTV program at Ithaca College, working as a Reporter for Newswatch 16. I am also a Movie Host and editor for Entertainment 16. I am the Ski Team Captain for Ithaca College's club race team, and also have joined the SPCA volunteer group.
Over this past summer I had a great opportunity to intern with Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's radio station, Kiss 108 in Boston, Mass. It was so much fun to see DJ Romeo! in action and work on commercials with the production director 'Spanky'. While interning I learned how to work their radio system, NexGen, I answered phone calls from fans, helped update their facebook page with fun pictures to get their listeners involved, edited commercials for a couple artists and was featured in an add for the station. It was a great experience, and one I would highly recommend. With the help of my advisor at Kiss108 and the involvement I had at the station, I figured out that this is the industry I want to be in.
I feel that students need to find what they enjoy doing the most, and for me that’s developing my knowledge of media and working with music, television and film. Since I've been at Ithaca I've had the opportunity to hear many important people speak, and they have all emphasized the importance of being a renaissance person, while having a specific expertise in one field. Bill D’Elia told us to “learn everything you can and take advantage of this place [Park] for self expression, for this is you key to success."
While attending Ithaca College, Park School, I've already learned that to be in the TV industry, you have to have perseverance and passion. I’ve seen many examples of successful people who come from this school; I hope to be one of them someday. As you look over my page I hope you see that I’m a hard worker and I’m always looking to learn new things.
“Everything is hard about “The Industry”-Who are you. Find that out.” Bill D’Elia
