Hello, my name is Rebecca Norton. I am currently a Senior at Ithaca College, majoring in Television-Radio with a media production concentration in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
When I was younger I was inspired by a television show whose main character was a brilliant student pursuing journalism. She was driven and always went above and beyond what was expected. Throughout my time here at Ithaca College I have learned many journalism and TV studio skills. I am comfortable being in front of the camera but also have a love for producing and editing. I hope to utilize Ithaca’s opportunities and resources to pursue my passion for TV, film, radio, and social media.
I'm an active member on ICTV at Ithaca College, working as a Reporter for Newswatch 16. I was also a Movie corespondent for Entertainment 16, where I am now their head editor. I also edit for and the new original series here on ICTV called Staged. I am the Ski Team Captain for IC's alpine race team, where I manage 20 skiers, and create budget proposals for each new season.
In the Summer of 2014 I became an Intern for QVC. I worked directly under the manager of production and head control room supervisor. I operated the audio board, graphic system and handheld camera while in the the control room. When working with the production manager I created production and set blocking guides and did other duties as needed. I was a “guinea pig” for the dual production-control room internship. In the Fall 2013 semester I had the wonderful opportunity to intern in London, UK at CBS Foreign News. I was a newsdesk, website and Newspath intern. I logged breaking news and live shows into ENPS, helped create log lines for the international website and interviewed experts for Newspath. In addition to that I also had the opportunity to create my own package with the assistance of one of CBS's lead correspondents. Previously I interned with Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's radio station, Kiss 108 in Boston, Mass. It was an eye opener to see DJ Romeo! on air and edit rough cuts of commercials with the production director. While interning I learned how to work the radio system, NexGen, I answered phone calls from fans, helped update their Facebook page with fun pictures to get their listeners involved. Both were great experiences.
I feel I have found what I enjoy doing the most, working with all aspects of media; from TV to advertising. Since I've been at Ithaca I've had the opportunity to hear many important people speak, and they have all emphasized the importance of being a renaissance person, while having a specific expertise in one field. This year I have thrown myself into the ICTV Publicity team, creating graphics and advertisements for the TV shows. My ads were voted best TV Show Ad twice.
While attending Ithaca College, Park School, I've already learned that to be in the TV industry, you have to have perseverance and passion. I’ve seen many examples of successful people who come from this school; I hope to be one of them someday. As you look over my page I hope you see that I’m a hard worker and am always looking to learn new things.
