Proposal and Grant Writing

In the fall of 2010, I enrolled in a service learning class in proposal and grant writing. My team and I worked with the director of Ithaca's Whole Community Project to assess the financial needs of the Chestnut Hill Community Permaculture Garden, a Whole Community Project initiative, to develop proposal materials for a $30,000 grant. In addition to writing the proposal, some of my responsibilities included developing methods to evaluate the garden and researching similar gardens to use as benchmarks. I was also responsible locating ponsors with similar values to the Whole Community Project and targeting the proposal to the selected foundation. Working with the Whole Community Project enhanced my skills in publicity writing and public relations, and strengthened my research skills, particularly in market research and understanding target audiences. The documents included in this section are excerpts from the completed 60-page proposal.
