My name is Sarah Geary and I am a freshman Health Sciences/Pre-med major in the School of Health Science and Human Performance and Honors minor. I am very interested in biology and chemistry and how they relate to health sciences. I have a very broad range of interests when it comes to deciding on a career, but I definitely would like to pursue something related to health sciences. I have considered reproductive endocrinology, physician's assistant, anesthesiology, and pediatric doctor as possible choices.
I enjoy doing volunteer work and it has been something I've been involved with for years. I currently participate in IC Service Saturdays for which I was involved in Books Thru Bars, I volunteer at the Tompkins County SPCA and care for cats, and I am involved in Ithaca Loaves and Fishes. I do not yet have work experience, yet this summer I will be applying for jobs in my hometown and perhaps looking for future research and/or internship opportunities. I plan to study abroad in London through either the IC Summer Program, for which I would have an internship, or in the fall 2013 semester next year.
My long-term goals are to maintain a strong GPA to remain in the Leadership Scholars program, study abroad, take classes in music, do research in biology or chemistry, graduate with honors, and have a career in health sciences and health promotion. I believe that I am unique because I have a very broad range of interests spanning from music to science to animals, I am very perseverant, and I truly love helping people. I would excel in a career that involves both my strong interests in science and health and my desire to help others.
