Hi, my name is Taylor Haury. I am a Junior at Ithaca College and a student in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance with a major in Health Sciences and an emphasis in nutrition. In 2010 I graduated from Orville H. Platt High School in Meriden, Connecticut where I've lived my whole life. I come from a medium-income family who are largely involved in the health field, which is where my inspiration comes from. Growing up, I was largely influenced by their ambition and constant encouragement, and from a young age I was aware of my desire to pursue a career in health care.
Outside of the classroom I am a Patient Care Volunteer at Midstate Medical Center, where I have learned to not only practice but also appreciate medical professionalism, and I am grateful for the rewarding insight into the medical field that volunteering has given me. I have been able to meet more than one patient who has made me smile and given me something to reflect upon. It is such a privilege to be able to listen to a patient's story and interact with people from so many different walks of life. I think that this tremendously rewarding experience has helped to transform me into the more mature, independent, and motivated individual that I have become today.
I have always known that health care would be my career, but until I attended Ithaca College I had never been sure of what exactly I wanted to do. During my sophomore year I discovered my passion for nutrition and dietetics, and I decided to pursue my education towards becoming a Clinical Registered Dietician. I think that being part of someones journey towards healthier living through diet and lifestyle changes can be very rewarding, and I like that nutrition can be incorporated into daily living, such as through friendly conversations and community connections. My ultimate goal is to work as a Clinical Dietician in a hospital where I can asses the nutritional status of a patient and provide appropriate care.
