Victoria Adams Profile

Welcome to my ePortfolio page! Please enjoy my site.

Hi, my name is Victoria Adams and I’m a student at Ithaca College. I have a strong interest in the field of communications, specifically in television and radio. I have spent my time in high school and college participating in activities that will help develop my skills. My philosophy is to do everything I can to learn as much as possible. In high school, I was editor-in-chief of my school’s newspaper, I directed the morning announcements, participated in a high school program at Ithaca College and went to a program at Philadelphia’s radio station, KYW. At Ithaca College I am a participant in To Write Love on Her Arms, a production assistant for Fake Out, a participant of the writing team for Couples Clash, audio assistant for Ithapocalypse and a DJ for VIC Radio. These experiences have helped me learn more about my field.

These experiences have also opened my eyes to how communications is always changing. First, I have learned that the way we receive our information has completely changed. Through the video we watched during class I learned that news is being delivered faster than ever, and is mobilized by newer technology. Specifically, advertising has been affected by the growth of social networks. For example, by working as a publicist at Tom Adams Windows and Carpets, I have learned that advertising on the Internet has become much more important. I have learned how to use different websites such as constant contact in order to reach out to potential customers.

Also, like we talked about in class; there are many jobs that are opening in the communications field. There are more opportunities than ever to become involved in things such as research, advertising and broadcasting.

As we talked about in class, radio is another way to distribute information. I have seen first-hand the importance of news radio. By producing my own report on KYW, I have seen the process that is necessary to produce a piece of news. I have also realized how many individuals rely on this form of communication in order to gather their news.

Moving on, the Internet has been a large topic. Mainly, it is able to connect us in ways that other forms of distribution cannot.  Even by simply using Skype, our class has showed that internet connection is an essential aspect of learning.

Lastly, I learned through Spark! that a career in this field requires determination and enthusiasm. The many people that I met taught me that it’s important to eagerly take every opportunity that is presented to you.
